Tax returns
Which documents do I need for my tax return?
As a rule, we need your salary certificate, tax statements and bank statements as at 31 December, confirmations of pillar 3a contributions, receipts for medical and further-education costs and, for real estate, the documents on mortgage interest and maintenance costs. Your last tax assessment is also helpful.
Are contributions to pillar 3a worthwhile for tax purposes?
Contributions to pillar 3a (private pension) can be deducted from taxable income up to the maximum amount set each year. The payment must be made by 31 December. How much you save depends on your income and canton of residence.
What happens if I cannot meet the deadline?
An extension of the deadline can be requested from the cantonal tax administration. Please contact us early so that we can plan the next steps together.
Accounting and payroll
When is my company required to keep accounts?
Legal entities such as a GmbH (LLC) or an AG (corporation) are always required to keep accounts. Sole proprietorships and partnerships must keep double-entry accounts from an annual turnover of CHF 500,000; below that, simple records of income, expenses and assets are sufficient.
When does my company have to register for VAT?
VAT liability generally begins as soon as a company generates a worldwide annual turnover of CHF 100,000 from taxable supplies. Registration is made with the Swiss Federal Tax Administration (ESTV). Voluntary registration can make sense in certain cases; we will be happy to advise you.
How long must business records be kept?
Accounting records, receipts and business correspondence must be kept for ten years. Electronic storage is permitted, provided the documents are archived completely, legibly and in an unalterable form.
Company formation and consulting
Which legal form is right for my company?
That depends, among other things, on liability, your tax situation, pension provision and your plans for the future. A sole proprietorship is easy to set up, but the owner is personally liable. With a GmbH or AG, liability is limited to the company's assets. We show you the differences based on your specific case.
How long does it take to form a company?
Once all documents are available, a GmbH or AG is usually entered in the commercial register within a few weeks. The duration depends mainly on the appointments with the bank and the notary and on processing by the commercial register office.
What does it cost to form a company?
In addition to our fee, there are fees for the notary and the commercial register. For a GmbH or AG, the capital must also be paid in; it is then available to the company. You will receive a quote from us in advance.
Can I form a company without my own office?
Yes. With a company domicile, your company receives a business address in Switzerland, which can be entered as its registered office in the commercial register.

Company domicile
Is a company domicile permitted in Switzerland?
Yes. A company can register its seat at a c/o address if the domicile provider grants it a legal domicile there. A corresponding confirmation from the domicile provider is required for the entry in the commercial register.
What happens to my mail?
We receive your business mail and handle it according to the agreed service. Depending on the package, we forward it to an address of your choice or provide it to you digitally.
Can I get just an address without further services?
The "Essential" package includes the business address with a basic mail service. You can add further services at any time.

Escrow service
What is an escrow service?
With an escrow service, one party deposits money or assets with a neutral third party. The third party releases the assets only once the previously agreed conditions have been met, for example when the goods have reached the buyer.
From what amount is an escrow service worthwhile?
We handle transactions from CHF 5,000. An escrow service is particularly useful for larger amounts and when the parties do not yet know each other.
What happens if delivery is not made as agreed?
The deposited amount is only released once the agreed conditions have been met. How to proceed in the event of a dispute is set out in advance in the escrow agreement.
Where are my valuables kept during the escrow?
We keep valuables in a safe-deposit box within a larger safe. For security reasons, this safe is not located in our offices but at an external location. The valuables remain there until the agreed completion of the transaction.
What does safekeeping cost?
The costs depend on the size of the object and the duration of safekeeping. We will be happy to prepare a quote without obligation in advance.
What information do you need for an enquiry?
For an initial assessment, details of the type of transaction, the approximate amount and the parties involved are sufficient. For the actual handling, we then need identity documents of both parties and the documents relating to the transaction.

Insurance
Which insurances are mandatory for an SME?
As soon as you employ staff, accident insurance under the UVG is mandatory. In addition, employees above a statutory annual salary must be insured in the occupational pension scheme (BVG). Depending on your activity, other insurances may be required, for example for motor vehicles.
Is daily sickness benefits insurance mandatory?
No, it is not required by law. However, employers must continue to pay salaries for a certain period in the event of illness. Daily sickness benefits insurance can cover this risk. In some industries, a collective labour agreement also requires such insurance.
Can you review our existing insurance policies?
Yes. We analyse your existing policies for gaps, double insurance and potential for optimisation and discuss the results with you.
Is cyber insurance worthwhile for smaller companies?
Smaller companies also work with customer data and depend on functioning IT. Cyber insurance can cover costs after an attack or data loss. Whether it makes sense for you is something we clarify together.
Which private insurances make sense?
For most households, personal liability and household contents insurance form the basic cover. Which other insurances make sense depends on your life situation, for example home ownership, vehicles or family.
Is pillar 3a worthwhile?
Contributions to pillar 3a can be deducted from taxable income up to the statutory maximum and improve your retirement provision. Whether an account or an insurance solution suits you better is something we discuss with you.
Do I have to insure domestic help?
Yes. Anyone who employs domestic help or a cleaner must insure them against accidents, regardless of the number of hours worked. We show you how to do this easily.
Do you also advise on health insurance?
No, we do not offer advice on health insurance funds. We focus on property, liability, personal and pension insurance.
Finance and pensions
What does FinSA mean for me as a client?
The Financial Services Act protects investors. Among other things, it obliges advisers to inform you about risks and costs and to check whether an investment matches your knowledge and goals.
How much risk should I take?
That depends on your investment horizon, your financial situation and your personal risk tolerance. If you will only need the money in many years, you can usually accept more fluctuation. We clarify this together with you.
Pillar 3a as an account or with securities?
A 3a account is simple and low in fluctuation, but usually earns little interest. A 3a solution with securities offers higher return potential in the long term but is exposed to price fluctuations. The right solution depends on the time horizon until retirement.
Is it worth comparing mortgages?
Yes. The conditions of different providers can differ considerably. A comparison before a purchase or before renewing an existing mortgage is therefore worthwhile in most cases.
